It provides practical skills\, evidence-based tools\, and collaborative learning opportunities to support participants in developing a strong research profile. \nThe curriculum covers 7 competency areas from the European Researcher Competency Framework (Foundation to Intermediate level)\, complemented by 3 additional topics selected by the ACE²-EU alliance. Together\, they offer a coherent pathway towards research excellence. \nSessions are delivered online via Microsoft Teams by instructors from across the ACE²-EU partner institutions. All registered participants also have access to the Moodle platform\, where session resources and recordings of missed sessions are available throughout the programme. \nWhat you will develop \n\nResearch management — project planning\, resource optimisation\, and open-access publishing.\nResearch impact — dissemination strategies to engage policymakers\, industry\, and the public.\nSelf-management — productivity\, stress management\, entrepreneurial thinking\, and inclusive work practices.\nCognitive skills — creativity\, critical thinking\, and problem-solving for complex research challenges.\nCollaboration and leadership — inclusive teamwork\, mentorship\, and professional networking.\nResearch tools — data management\, citizen science\, open-source software\, and AI tools for ethical research.\nResearch practice — scientific writing\, disciplinary expertise\, and AI integration.\nResearch ethics — ethical principles\, data protection\, and responsible use of AI.\nResearch funding — funding sources\, resource management\, and consortium building.\nProposal writing — EU funding calls\, proposal drafting\, and alignment with societal challenges.\n\nThe Making Impact session is distributed through 5 smaller sessions from 20th April till 24th April. You will discover how flowers contribute to human health and environmental sustainability\, and learn about sustainable cultivation practices\, plant types and composition\, and how changes in plant populations affect the soil. By connecting botany\, microbiology\, and urban planning\, the course shows why bringing more flowers into our cities matters — for people\, for nature\, and for the health of the whole ecosystem. \n  \nCourse Description:\n \n\nOnline sessions: Online lectures introduce the key concepts of the course: plant diversity and climate change\, and how the soil ecosystem changes when native plants are replaced. Sessions include group discussions and preparatory readings. Dates: 15– 26 June 2026.\nOn-site sessions: A five-day intensive programme combining workshops\, field activities\, and laboratory experiments. You will work directly with local stakeholders to explore real-world challenges and develop practical solutions. It is financed by Erasmus+ funding\, allowing for organisational support (min. 4.000€) in addition to travel grants for participants. \nSince BIPs are ‘new territory’ to several institutions within the ACE²-EU Alliance\, the aim of this BIP is to train colleagues to become BIP experts. During the programme\, we will provide you with insights regarding terms\, conditions\, and particularities of BIPs\, thereby developing structures and processes to strategically embed BIPs into institutional developments. \nThis BIP addresses two target-groups: \n\nAdministrative staff involved with coordinating\, supporting\, and facilitating BIPs within the ACE²-EU Alliance and\nProfessors and scientific staff interested in developing a BIP in the areas of teaching\, research\, and/or entrepreneurship.\n\nThis is delivered as a single BIP structured in two phases\, not as two parallel programmes. During the first part of the on-site week\, the programme is dedicated to administrative staff\, who take a deep dive into BIP coordination\, evaluate best practices and develop a joint scheme for processes within the Alliance. In the second part\, the programme moves into project-based learning: administrative staff put what they have learned into practice\, while teaching staff receive a guided introduction to BIP development and work on potential BIP ideas to be taken further afterwards. Sessions on inclusive and diversity-sensitive BIP development\, as well as inputs on communication\, are open to all participants. \nAt the end of this course\, you will know everything you need to know about how to organise and coordinate your own BIP. Participating lecturers will have used the opportunity to exchange ideas\, work together in workshops to develop topics and content with colleagues from different Alliance institutions. In addition\, we will have laid out a foundation for the strategic positioning of BIPs to foster teaching\, research\, innovation\, entrepreneurship\, and vocational training within the ACE²-EU Alliance. \nLearning Journey \nThis BIP is divided into four major parts: \n\nIntroduction and information (on site)\nBest practices\, adaptation\, and integration (on site)\nExploration and structuring (on site)\nReflection and improvement (online)\n\nFor administrative staff: At the beginning of the course\, participants will receive a conceptual introduction to and important information about BIPs. After having gained in-depth insights\, they will develop processes and structures needed for the establishment of a workflow at their home institutions and within the Alliance. To do so\, they will work with case studies to assess best practices and pitfalls with the organisation of BIPs. \nFor teaching staff: Lecturers will join the programme on Wednesday. They will receive a concise introduction to BIP structures and how to develop a BIP. Furthermore\, they will learn about possibilities and potentials of integrating BIPs into their academic practice\, before they will take a deep dive into developing their own BIP ideas. \nThroughout the course\, hands-on workshops will be accompanied by thematic inputs on topics such as the development of inclusive and diversity-sensitive teaching formats or target-group-oriented communication. \nAll content-related activities will be accompanied by exercises and socio-cultural events that foster a positive working atmosphere. The main challenge is to understand how different tools and processes influence the way we see\, record and interpret the world around us. \nIn real life\, documentary photography is present in fields such as journalism\, social media\, activism and cultural projects. Knowing how to use images consciously helps us to communicate better\, to question what we see and to give voice to different perspectives — something particularly important in a world full of fleeting and not always verified images. \nThis subject is relevant because photography is not just a technique — it is also a way of thinking critically. Academically\, it helps develop visual analysis and creativity. Professionally\, it opens doors in fields such as communication\, media and the arts. Socially\, it allows us to better understand other realities and tell stories with impact and responsibility. \nThe course is designed for students from different audiovisual disciplines and countries\, although prior experience in photography is required. \n  \nLearning Journey\nThe course follows a blended and progressive learning pathway that combines conceptual exploration\, creative practice and experiential learning within an international context. \nOnline preparatory phase (October–November 2026) \nDuring the online phase\, students are introduced to the core concepts of the course\, including the natural heritage of the River Tagus. They apply practical tools such as stakeholder mapping\, basic carbon footprint logic\, resource-flow analysis\, prioritisation methods\, and design thinking to transform challenges into feasible solutions. The programme combines theoretical input with practical workshops and field visits enabling students to connect sustainability frameworks with real institutional implementation. \n  \nCourse Description: \n \nProvide a more structured explanation of the course\, dividing it into its main components: \n\nOnline sessions: During the online phase October 12 to November 2\, students’ baseline knowledge of climate neutrality concepts\, sustainability governance\, and institutional environmental performance is assessed through structured discussions and preparatory analytical tasks. This phase also equips them with methodological tools for campus-level analysis. In the onsite phase\, students apply this foundation in practice: working in interdisciplinary teams\, they analyse real university sustainability challenges\, identify priority intervention areas\, and develop evidence-based solutions in the form of Climate Neutrality Guidelines or a structured Climate Action Plan with measurable targets and implementation pathways.\nOnsite sessions: The onsite mobility week in Riga functions as an applied sustainability laboratory where students work intensively in interdisciplinary teams to develop practical climate action proposals for universities. Participants engage with real university sustainability challenges covering areas such as energy efficiency\, mobility systems\, waste and circular resource management\, infrastructure performance\, and sustainability governance. Workshops combine short expert inputs with hands-on application sessions focused on environmental impact assessment\, stakeholder mapping\, prioritisation of sustainability interventions\, feasibility analysis\, climate action planning\, and creative design thinking. The learning process is highly practice-oriented\, with students continuously applying tools and methods directly to their selected university challenge. The programme also includes field visits to sustainability-related sites and initiatives in Riga\, allowing students to observe climate action and sustainability practices in real-life contexts and reflect on how theoretical approaches are implemented in practice. Each team develops a structured final output in the form of either Climate Neutrality Guidelines or a Climate Action Plan for a defined university context. The deliverables include a clear problem definition\, strategic objectives\, proposed interventions\, implementation timeline\, responsible stakeholders\, and monitoring indicators. The mobility week concludes with final presentations and reflection sessions\, where students present their results to academic staff\, peers\, and external sustainability practitioners.\n\nLocation and dates: Riga\, Latvia\, November 9 to November 13\, 2026 \n\nFollow-up / reflection: The follow-up phase goes deeper on structured student reflection. The course bridges technical knowledge\, communication skills\, and social responsibility. \n  \nLearning Journey\nOn-site phase (Ingolstadt\, 30 November – 4 December 2026) \nDuring the on-site week\, students will engage in: \n\nInteractive impulse lectures on cybersecurity fundamentals\nWorkshops on hacking mechanisms\, authentication\, cryptography\, phishing\, and digital scams\nPractical sessions on protecting devices and online identities\nParallel design workshops focused on user-friendly communication and layout (UXD principles)\nStakeholder interaction and final presentation of developed materials\n\nStudents will work in intercultural teams throughout the week\, progressively developing communication materials tailored to senior citizens and local communities. \nThe emphasis is on experiential learning\, interdisciplinary collaboration\, and real-world application. \nFollow-up / Reflection \nAfter the on-site component\, students will: \n\nRevise and adapt their materials in their own language\nCollaborate with peers from their home institutions\nDisseminate the materials within their local communities\n\nThis phase consolidates learning and reinforces the community engagement dimension of the course. \nLearning Objectives \nSpecific learning objectives include: \n\nexplaining how hackers and malware pose a threat\,\nrecognising scams in the digital world\,\nunderstanding how passwords work and how to make them strong\,\nunderstanding how to protect devices\,\nusing measures to increase safety on the internet\,\nuser experience design principles for designing brochures\, flyers\, and posters\,\ncommunicating in a clear and concise manner\, and\ndeveloping empathy for senior citizens.\n\nLearning Outcomes \nBy the end of the course\, students will be able to: \n\nexplain key digital security concepts and describe how they apply to everyday digital life\,\nidentify common online threats and demonstrate prevention strategies\,\napply best practices for securing digital devices and online accounts\, and\nimplement measures to protect sensitive data and manage privacy settings.\n\n  \nWhich students would find this course useful? \nThis course may be suitable for students from ACE2-EU partner universities enrolled in undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in the following fields: \n\n\n\nall fields (no prerequisites)\nundergraduate and postgraduate\n\n\n\nThis course may be suitable for those who have an interest in: \n\n\n\nimproving their digital safety and security skills\nunderstanding how cryptography works\,\n\n\n\nRecommended Language Level: \n\n\n\nBasic to intermediate level of English (B1-B2)\, as the working language will be English\n\n\n\nApplication Process: \nInterested applicants should \n🔗 Apply here: https://forms.gle/2QR1G9TWguSqt89A6 \nDeadline for receipt of applications: 01 October 2026 \nA notification of acceptance will be sent to successful applicants on the 15 October 2026 (an acceptance letter will be sent by the host institution and will include programme registration details). \nFurther Information \nFor any further information or queries related to the course\, please contact: \nKatherine.roegner@thi.de
