Shaping a Sustainable Future: Students Dive into 3D Printing Innovation

Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS, Austria) hosted its first ACE²-EU ABC “3D Printing for a Sustainable Future”, a hands-on, project-driven learning opportunity led by its ADMiRE Research Centre and co-created with the University Francisco de Vitoria.
The initial phase of the programme commenced with a week-long online component held from 23 to 27 March, during which students were provided with a theoretical and methodological foundation in additive manufacturing and polymer-based AM technologies.
The on-site component took place from 15 April to 17 April, bringing together 37 students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, from partner universities. The programme offered participants the opportunity to explore how polymer-based 3D printing can contribute to a more sustainable future. Students engaged in hands-on filament-based polymer 3D printing and slicing processes, while also being introduced to the fundamentals of additive manufacturing (AM), design for additive manufacturing (DfAM), and practical workflows, from CAD and slicing to prototyping and evaluation.
In addition to the academic activities, a social evening with the CUAS student community was organised in collaboration with the CUAS Student Union. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the city of Villach through a guided tour.
