ACEploration Mission No. 2 – A Celebration of Bioeconomy, Innovation, and European Collaboration
Between July 2–5, 2025, the Santarém Polytechnic University in Portugal will host the ACEploration Mission No. 2, a flagship event of the ACE²-EU European University Alliance. This event brings together academic, research, and industry representatives from across Europe to explore collaborative opportunities in education, innovation, and service to society.
Theme: The Bioeconomy – Science, Products, Lifestyle & Culture
Focusing on the intersection between tradition and innovation, this ACEploration explores the bioeconomy through the lens of sustainable food systems, with wine serving as a concrete example. From scientific innovation in agriculture and nutrition to the cultural dimensions of food and tourism, the event highlights how bioeconomy can contribute to sustainability, health, and regional development.
Key Highlights
- Interactive sessions on pedagogical innovation, sustainability, and interdisciplinary course design
- Presentations and pitch sessions for joint programmes and mobility opportunities
- Local stakeholder engagement, including visits to regional institutions and a wine tasting experience at Agrária Winery
- Cultural immersion, including a city tour of Santarém and a river cruise on the Tagus in Valada do Ribatejo
- Team-building activities, such as a surf outing to Peniche beach
Objectives
ACEploration missions are designed to:
- Facilitate co-creation of joint academic programmes
- Identify opportunities for collaborative research and mobility
- Promote interdisciplinary learning and challenge-based pedagogy
- Strengthen ties among the 9 partner universities of the ACE²-EU Alliance
This event is part of a series of 9 ACEplorations, each hosted by one member institution of the alliance, focused on discovering and showcasing unique areas for partnership and innovation
