The Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) was founded in 1994. Its core profile lies in the fields of technology and business. In addition to around 80 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, the THI will also award doctorates from this academic year onwards. The THI focuses on technology and business and is characterised not only by its excellent practice-oriented teaching (a compulsory practical semester in every Bachelor’s degree course, as well as numerous project and final theses, are core elements of the programme and around 600 students study in cooperation with one of the 120 dual partners) but also by its research strength and strong links to the regional economic structure. THI graduates are well prepared for the export-oriented economy. Every second THI graduate has already gained international experience by the time they graduate as they can benefit from the extensive network of 140 partner universities.
Additionally, each course of study includes English-language modules, and six purely English-language courses of study are currently offered. The “THI 2030″ strategy aims to expand the university to 10,000 students and the expansion of teaching and research in the fields of health/life science and construction, environment, and energy/sustainable infrastructure. The strategy also includes preparing students for an international and entrepreneurial economy and the challenge of digital transformation in all areas. Aligned with this strategy, the ACE2-EU alliance will enable THI to grow and enlarge its network. The institution is especially characterized by its research strength. In 2023, there was a turnover of more than 29M€ within third-party-funded projects for research and transfer (industry, national and EU). On the EU-level, THI is currently a partner in around 15 Horizon Europe projects and member of EUA, EARPA (platform of automotive researchers) and EIRMA (European Industrial Research Management Association). Further, THI offers real-world laboratories/testing fields (albeit possibility and scope have to be defined with our partners), offering test fields that create space for testing innovations, e.g. in the area of autonomous driving functions, mobility concepts and road safety.

Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) is a leading university of applied sciences in Bavaria, Germany, focusing on innovative education and practical research. Established in 1994, THI provides a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in fields such as engineering, business, computer science and health. It places great emphasis on a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical application, supported by close collaborations with industry partners.

The THI offers state-of-the-art facilities, including modern labs and research centers, which play a key role in its emphasis on applied research. Key areas of focus include electromobility, artificial intelligence, renewable energy and sustainable systems. Its Institute of New Energy Systems (InES), together with other specialised research centers (CARISSMA, Institute for Innovative Mobility (IIMo), AImotion Bavaria, Research and Transfer Center Sustainability Neuburg (ForTraNN) and Bavarian Foresight Institute) contribute to advancements in technology and innovation. Furthermore, the Doctoral School at THI currently supervises over 140 doctoral students.

The university is committed to internationalisation, providing exchange programs, English-taught courses, and partnerships with universities worldwide. The THI’s vibrant campus supports a diverse community, fostering an inclusive environment for students from over 100 countries.

The THI also prioritises lifelong learning, offering programs for working professionals to upskill or pursue advanced studies. With strong industry connections, graduates benefit from excellent career opportunities in global and regional markets. This makes THI a dynamic institution for those seeking high-quality education combined with real-world application.

“The participation in the ACE²-EU Alliance greatly enhances THI’s international outreach and expertise. With its emphasis on internationalisation in research and teaching THI will not only contribute its knowledge in technical sciences but also its broad experience in international funding and collaboration. We hence look forward to a lasting impact and collaboration within the ACE²-EU-Unit.”
