Rethinking Resources, Redesigning the Future: Circular Economy Programme Launches at Constantin Brâncuși University of Târgu Jiu

Târgu Jiu, Romania | 26 October 2026

What if waste could become a resource, products could last longer, and economic growth could go hand in hand with environmental responsibility?

These are some of the key questions explored in “Circular Economy and Long-term Impact”, an international educational programme launched on 26 October 2026 at Constantin Brâncuși University of Târgu Jiu, under the ACE²-EU European University Alliance.

Taking place from 26 to 30 October 2026, the programme brings together students and academic staff in an interdisciplinary learning environment focused on sustainability, resource efficiency, and the transition towards a circular economy.

From a Linear Economy to a Sustainable Future

In a world facing increasing environmental pressures, the traditional take–make–dispose economic model raises important questions about resource consumption, waste generation, and long-term sustainability.

The “Circular Economy and Long-term Impact” programme challenges participants to rethink this model and explore innovative approaches that keep products, materials, and resources in use for as long as possible.

Throughout the course, students will examine the fundamental principles of the circular economy, including waste prevention, resource efficiency, sustainable product design, reuse, and the development of environmentally responsible business models.

By adopting a systems-thinking perspective, participants will analyse how resources move through production and consumption processes and how circular solutions can create environmental, economic, and social value.

Turning Knowledge into Action

Organised as an Applied Blended Challenge (ABC) Programme, the course combines online learning activities held in October 2026 with five days of face-to-face educational activities in Romania.

Through interactive workshops, practical exercises, interdisciplinary discussions, and collaborative challenges, participants will explore how circular economy principles can be applied to real-world situations.

Particular attention will be given to the role of innovation, public policies, business strategies, and individual behaviour in supporting the transition towards more sustainable economic systems.

The programme also encourages students to critically assess environmental impacts and identify opportunities for redesigning products, services, and processes to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive 3 ECTS credits and a certificate of attendance.

European Collaboration for Long-term Impact

Developed within the framework of the ACE²-EU European University Alliance, the programme reflects a shared commitment to innovative education, interdisciplinary cooperation, and addressing contemporary societal challenges through international academic collaboration.

The alliance brings together nine higher education institutions from nine European countries:

Constantin Brâncuși University of Târgu Jiu: Supporting Innovation and Sustainability

By hosting this international programme, Constantin Brâncuși University of Târgu Jiu continues to strengthen its role in European academic cooperation and its commitment to education that responds to real-world challenges.

The course provides an opportunity to connect academic knowledge with practical applications, encouraging participants to explore how sustainability can become a driving force for innovation, responsible decision-making, and long-term development.

Beyond the classroom, the programme highlights the importance of international dialogue and interdisciplinary perspectives in addressing environmental challenges that transcend national borders.

The transition to a circular economy is not simply about reducing waste,  it is about rethinking how we design, produce, consume, and create value for future generations.

Through education, creativity, and European collaboration, “Circular Economy and Long-term Impact” invites participants to become active contributors to a future where resources are valued, innovation is encouraged, and sustainability is a shared responsibility.

Rethink resources. Redesign systems. Create lasting impact.
