The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS), founded in 1995, is a public university. CUAS experiments with innovative research and teaching formats, actively advancing new methods with its stakeholders, including universities, companies, public bodies, governments, and citizens. CUAS has invested in improving the classroom’s technical equipment and established a Didactic Center to support educators. Digitalization is paramount in this realm, as CUAS strives to establish a Virtual Campus with collaborative digital, hybrid, and virtual reality learning spaces. Furthermore, committed to a holistic approach that appreciates the region’s rich natural diversity, CUAS integrates nature into its curricula as a learning space and lived experience. Classes tackling sustainability, climate and biodiversity protection, nature-based approaches in therapy and well-being are increasingly organized outdoors. CUAS is shaping the future of education through these innovative measures and technological advancements. Carinthia is one of the leading European semiconductor regions and a founding member of the European Semiconductor Regions Alliance. CUAS benefits from this expertise and possesses a strong industry network, collaborating with over 300 key partners. Furthermore, 80 Study and Work partners enable students to combine their studies with a career, thus putting theoretical knowledge directly into practice and gaining professional experience in Carinthia’s leading companies. CUAS ranks among the top three Austrian universities of applied sciences in research and its 19 transdisciplinary research groups are engaged in cutting-edge research on crucial issues such as health, environment, industry, sustainability, and interculturality. Recently CUAS has been dedicated to further internationalization, particularly in its curricula and today offers about 350 courses in English and twelve English-taught degree programs (three bachelor’s, eight master’s, and one further education program). In addition, CUAS proposes five double degrees with partner universities in Germany, Finland, and Italy and a joint degree with TU Wien. Finally, CUAS is co-creating a transdisciplinary European Joint Master on Active Ageing and Age-Friendly Society and an Online Master in e-Wellbeing and Mental Health in Older Adults with partners across Europe.
Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) is located in the southern Austrian region of Carinthia, in a tri-border area with Italy and Slovenia. Known for its strong commitment to practice-oriented education, research, development and innovative teaching methods, CUAS focuses on preparing students for dynamic and interdisciplinary careers.
With five campuses in Villach, Klagenfurt, Spittal and Feldkirchen, CUAS hosts 2.600 students (70 % full-time, 30 % part-time) across 40 study programs within four schools: Health Sciences & Social Work; Engineering & IT; Civil Engineering & Architecture and Management. Additionally, 750 lifelong learners attend CUAS Academy. The university offers 350 courses in English and twelve English-taught degree programs (three bachelor’s, eight master’s, one further education).
CUAS ranks among the top three Austrian universities of applied sciences in research. Its four interdisciplinary research centers are nationally acknowledged flagship projects: CIME – Carinthia Institute for Microelectronics; CiSMAT – Carinthia Institute for Smart Materials; IARA – Institute of Applied Research on Ageing; and ADMiRE – specializing in additive manufacturing, intelligent robotics, sensors and engineering. Moreover, 19 transdisciplinary research groups are engaged in cutting-edge research on crucial issues such as health, environment, industry, sustainability and interculturality. CUAS is also proud to house the UNESCO Chair for Sustainable Management of Conservation Areas.
Being part of the ACE²-EU alliance is a valuable opportunity for CUAS to expand its international reach and evolve as an innovative, future-focused university. This partnership enhances research opportunities, facilitates mobility programs, deepens the exchange of knowledge and fosters international cooperation, thereby benefiting our students, staff and external partners. It positions CUAS as a key player in shaping a more interconnected and sustainable European education and higher education landscape.
