Course Description and Learning Objectives

“This 2-hour online training aims to support university educators in developing a more student-centered teaching approach through the exploration of cultural influences, reflective practices and active learning tools. Participants will engage in collaborative tasks, case discussions and scenario-based exercises to strengthen their teaching strategies and foster inclusive, participatory learning environments..“

 

Course Description:
This 2-hour online training is part of the Active Learning e-Pedagogy Schools (ALES), an initiative within the ACE2-EU Pedagogy Unit. The Pedagogy Unit contributes to the ACE2-EU educational mission by developing training programmes that strengthen a shared pedagogical culture across the Alliance, focusing on active learning methodologies that include experiential, challenge-based and work-based learning approaches.

The ALES sessions aim to empower university educators to create more student-centered and inclusive learning environments by merging the principles of active learning with innovative digital tools and online pedagogies.

Through collaborative tasks, reflective practices and scenario-based discussions, participants explore the cultural dimensions of teaching and learning while developing practical strategies for dynamic blended or online classrooms.

By integrating active learning with digital pedagogy, the ALES initiative promotes innovation, accessibility, and cross-European collaboration, enhancing the quality and impact of joint educational programmes within the ACE2-EU Alliance.

The structure of the course will be the following:

  • ONLY Online sessions:
  • Pre-workshop task: Educator profile
  • Introduction and Icebreaker
  • Overview on culture and communication
  • Case scenario
  • Breakout room tasks on active learning activities
  • Teaching and learning success reflection

 

Specific learning objectives include:

  • Raise awareness of the impact of culture on communication and teaching;
  • Reflect on the educator’s and student’s role in active learning;
  • Apply active learning tools for a more student-centered and international learning environments;
  • Develop teaching strategies for an active learning classroom.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Recognise the impact of culture on communication and teaching practices in diverse learning environments;
  • Reflect on the roles of both educators and students in fostering active and participatory learning;
  • Apply active learning tools and techniques to promote a more student-centered and international mindset;
  • Design and implement teaching strategies that create inclusive, engaging and reflective active learning classrooms.
