Founded in 1994, the Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) has established itself as one of Germany’s most dynamic universities of applied sciences, with a strong focus on technology and business. From the 2024 academic year onwards, THI will also be awarding doctorates – a further milestone in its continued growth and academic excellence.
THI offers around 80 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, combining academic rigour with outstanding practical relevance. Each Bachelor’s degree includes a compulsory practical semester, numerous projects and final theses, and close cooperation with industry – including more than 120 dual study partners. Around 600 students are currently enrolled in dual study programmes, gaining invaluable real-world experience alongside their studies.
With its research strength and close ties to the regional and international business community, THI provides an ideal bridge between academia and industry. Its graduates are highly sought after and exceptionally well prepared for the challenges of an export-oriented global economy. Thanks to a network of over 140 partner universities, every second THI graduate gains international experience during their studies.
English is firmly embedded in the curriculum: every programme includes English-language modules, and six degree programmes are taught entirely in English, attracting a growing number of international students.
THI’s forward-looking “THI 2030” strategy envisions growth to 10,000 students, alongside a significant expansion of teaching and research in the fields of health and life sciences, construction and the environment, and energy and sustainable infrastructure.
The strategy also focuses on preparing students for an international, entrepreneurial, and digitally transformed world.
In alignment with this vision, the ACE²-EU Alliance will further strengthen THI’s European partnerships and extend its global reach.
Renowned for its research excellence, THI achieved a turnover of more than €29 million in 2023 from externally funded research and transfer projects at the industrial, national, and EU levels. On the European stage, THI is currently a partner in around 15 Horizon Europe projects and a proud member of the European University Association (EUA), the European Automotive Research Partners Association (EARPA), and the European Industrial Research Management Association (EIRMA).
THI also operates a range of real-world laboratories and testing facilities – developed in collaboration with industrial partners – offering space for innovation in areas such as autonomous driving functions, new mobility concepts, and road safety. These environments bring research to life, providing students and partners alike with opportunities to shape the technologies of tomorrow.
