Objectives of the course:
- Learning about research supervision approaches and structures in alliance countries
- Identifying needs and developing ideas and strategies for bilateral or multilateral collaborations in doctoral supervision
- Developing a common approach for alliance collaboration in doctoral education and supervision within the ACE²-EU alliance
Methods:
- Expert inputs: modern PhD pedagogy with Mirjam Godskesen (two-day seminar); familiarizing with joint doctoral funding opportunities
- Peer-to-peer learning: Sharing approaches, practices, and challenges in doctoral supervision experienced in alliance partner institutions
- Best-practice models: Learning about joint supervision arrangements and supervisor training within the EUI community and beyond
- Interactive workshops: Engaging in deep discussions and developing ideas for common principles and approaches in doctoral supervision

- Enhanced cross-institutional understanding among alliance partners for approaches and challenges in PhD supervision
- Strong personal relationships among key personnel who will be involved in developing joint doctoral programmes in the alliance
- Actionable recommendations on joint arrangements and supervisor training within the alliance
- Concrete guidelines on a common approach to effective supervision, mentoring, and appropriate career guidance based on MSC Actions and the Alliance’s mission

This course may be suitable for staff from ACE2-EU partner universities, including research supervision staff (experienced and non-experienced researchers aiming to qualify for tenure positions), heads of doctoral schools, quality managers, and executive leaders. It may be suitable for staff from ACE2-EU partner universities who have an interest in finding partners for building joint supervision schemes and further developing supervision skills.
